Travel Recap: Miami, FL

Holiday vacation is the best way to end a year and start a new one. I went home for 2 1/2 weeks and it was GLORIOUS. It was amazing to see family, friends, and be back in the city I was born and raised. My heart was so filled to see that everyone is in a really good place. Although it is always hard to say goodbye, I truly left feeling so satisfied and blessed. I am beyond fortunate to have the support group I have. So many times we take advantage of the things around us – I told myself this trip that I would make every little second count. I think I did alright – from late night conversations with the parentals to sleepless nights with friends smashing grilled cheese, listening to records and sipping on coffee (or wine).

Life is a beautiful gift. Spend it with the people you love, the ones that inspire you, the ones that make you better, the ones that stretch you and make you see things different.

Cheers to new adventures in 2017.

Weekend Recap

Spent the weekend in Columbus, OH and I was not disappointed! My friend and I had been wanting to do a weekend trip for some time but never really got around to it until now. We spent Saturday with her family as well as eating our way through the city – thank you, food crawl! We got lost in a 32 room book store (so wonderful) and walked in and out of some adorable local shops.

Sunday we spent it at the first annual Columbus Coffee Fest. Here are some photos from our quick trip. I wish I would have documented more of the food but lighting was a real struggle in some of the venues.

Weekend Recap

My friend, from Miami, of 14 years came to visit me in Ohio. It was a wonderful time spent talking, laughing, signing, cooking, hiking, and just overall goodness. I love having those people in your life that just get you – they know what you’re thinking and feeling before you even do. Here are a few photos of our time together. Already looking forward to her next visit.

Currently Learning

I’m typically quite private so sharing what I’m currently learning via blog post seems like a stretch but here goes.

I like the idea of not over thinking, not planning, just living. Then when things go well you're pleasantly surprised.:

These days I’m currently learning to let life surprise me. This seems like a basic life lesson so you’re probably wondering why this is such an aha moment for me – I can explain. Typically, I enjoy coming to new understandings. I’m compelled to establish my own rules, boundaries, standards, and style. In other words, leaving little room for surprises or unknowns…

I’m focused on attaining my inner goals and standards. I set a particular course based on my theory of what ought to be. I work extremely hard to accomplish what I feel is important. So when things don’t go a certain way it can be quite annoying.

 :

Funny thing is, no matter how planned or calculated I am, life has a way of surprising me. Lately, I’ve experienced a few unexpected things and well … I’ve  quite enjoyed it.

Life is richer when we let our expectations be shattered and let life surprise us. In order to be more open to surprises I’m:

  • Keeping an open mind
  • Moderating expectations
  • Shifting my perspective
