This year, my whole idea of goal setting is changing. Here’s a look at how we can frame up new goals—and how we can actually achieve them this year.

2017 Goals & Stuff

I enjoy making lists. I like jotting down opportunity areas. I love making small goals and seeing myself grow. Every new year, I jot down 3 major things I’d like to accomplish. Whether they are accomplished or not isn’t the point. The point is to dream and look for areas that you strive to improve in order to live your best life. In addition to my 3 major goals, I keep my tiny monthly goals going all year long. Taping those suckers on my bathroom mirror are a nice reminder of the little things I feel would make me a better me. Truth is, when we’re at our best we can give our best to those around us, our jobs, etc.

For those who didn’t have the best 2016, put it behind you … learn from it … but move into 2017 with a new mindset. Find yourself, love yourself, be the best you.

Hello 2015. Let’s talk about you & me.

e856897aa068cc9406e33b8f4d20d99a2014 was full of new things. For instance,

  • I moved from Miami, FL to Akron, OH.
  • My sister and bro-in-law had their 2nd baby.
  • I endured my first (terrible) winter.
  • I made new, wonderful friends.
  • I started playing soccer again.
  • I visited new places such as: Toronto, Philly, Peru, Key West, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Virginia.

I don’t typically make “resolutions”. Instead I like to make long lists of things I want to do or aspire to be. Here are a few that made it on the list this year:

Don’t sweat petty things.
I don’t normally but this is just a nice reminder.

Don’t hang out with people who do sweat petty things.

We all know the person who always has something to complain about. You know, the Debbie Downer of the group or the one who wants Chinese food instead of pizza. For some, it takes a long time to muster up enough courage to tell these people they kind of suck (obvi, you wouldn’t use those words). For others, life has taught us at a young age to “prune” and get rid of those who aren’t really bringing positive vibes to your life.  I can tell you from experience, you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches once you start discerning (early on in a relationship) who should and shouldn’t be in your life.

More traveling.

The world is a beautiful place. It should be seen, photographed, explored & experienced. There really is beauty all around – we just have to open our eyes and see it. I love traveling and if I had more money and vacation days, I’d do a hell of a lot more of it.

More music.
I’m a big music person. However, over the years I’ve stopped digging up new artists. I’ve gotten used to Spotify finding them for me. Nothing wrong with that, I just really enjoy the hunt and the process of searching / studying an artist and what inspires their sound.

More books.

Words are the best. I’m a little jealous of people who can really capture a thought on paper. I wish I were a better writer but since I’m not I’ve decided I’ll just read as much as possible until my vocabulary actually amounts to something and I can write a book consisting of words with no less than 3 syllables each. Bam.

Goodbye, Facebook.

I’m not a fan of this social platform. It freaks me out quite frankly. And don’t even get me started on those Fruit Ninja game invites. I just can’t.

Bye, FB. I won’t miss you.

Become a coffee barista artist.

I love coffee. Like really LOVE. So this year I’ve decided I want to learn how to make designs and portraits in the coffee I serve my guests. I mean how epically awesome would it be if someone created a portrait of you in foam? Exactly.

Be present.

I really do believe one of the greatest gifts we can give each other is our undivided attention. There’s power in being present and attentive. There’s beauty in letting someone know that they are what matters and not what’s happening on Instagram (although I really do love the Gram). I want people to know that whether I’m with them for 2 minutes or for 20 hours, that my focus is on them. The rest can wait.

Train for a Marathon.

And by Marathon I mean a Netflix Marathon. This year I’m going for a couch body. So far, so good.

What’s on your list for 2015?

Holiday Break … Here I Come!

Holiday Break … Here I Come!

Goodbye cold weather, hello Sunshine State! I’m off to Miami this holiday break to be surrounded by family, friends and sun. I love this time of year — and I love staring at palm trees and having hot chocolate in spite of the 80 degree weather.
